What “encrypted on your device” actually means
No cryptography degree required. Here is the whole idea in three sentences — and then you can watch it happen, live, in the panel below.
The key is a phrase only you have
Five random words unlock your notes. That phrase never leaves your device, so there is no copy of it to steal, subpoena, or accidentally leak. Lose it and even we can't get the notes back — that's the point.
The server is deliberately clueless
It stores a scrambled blob under a meaningless ID, and deletes it after 48 hours. It has no idea whose notes they are or what's in them. That's what makes it safe for protected health information.
